Random Events transform any map into a living world. Drive in Free Roam mode, and the world around you will fill with realistic scenes—aggressive racers, road closures with concrete barriers, accidents with debris, police chases, drifters in parking lots, motorcades, ambulances, and much more. Everything is determined and placed during gameplay based on the road network and parking lot data of the loaded map, so the mod works on both official and custom maps without any manual configuration for each map.
Features
: 20 different world events that automatically appear and disappear depending on your position and a configurable chance of appearing per minute.
- Map-independent environment detection. The mod scans the road network and parking data of any loaded map. It uses built-in BeamNG parking spaces if they are on the map, and falls back to geometric scanning with raycast if they are not available.
- Persistent scan cache. The scan is performed once when the map is first launched, and on subsequent loads, the result is read from disk for instant launch. If the map data changes, the cache is automatically reset using the map fingerprint.
- In-game UI application. Add the Random Events application via the Apps menu. The compact view shows the system status - ON/OFF, active events, and scanning progress. The expand button opens a full settings panel with toggles for each event, chance sliders, manual spawn buttons, and distance settings. The transparency toggle allows you to make the panel less visible so it does not interfere with your vision while driving. Hovering over it immediately returns the panel to full opacity.
- Cars created by the mod are registered as traffic, so they do not clog the vehicle switching using the Tab key. Roadworks, props, and barriers are also skipped when switching with the Tab key.
- Configurable event spawn and disappearance distances, allowing you to choose how close events appear and how far away they remain before clearing.

Traffic and Racing events:
- Racers - Aggressive AI cars drive along the road network with maximum aggression and ignore lane rules.
- Convoy - A convoy of 3-5 traffic vehicles moves together at the general speed limit.
- Slow vehicle - a semi-trailer, bus, dump truck, or road roller moves slowly along the road and collects a queue behind it.
- Ghost jam - a short queue of cars, where the lead car periodically brakes sharply. The braking wave passes back through the queue, like a real phantom jam.
- Street race - 3-4 drivers line up on an offset starting grid and race together along a generated route with maximum aggression.
- Drag race - two drivers stand side by side on a long straight and both press the gas to the floor.
Roadworks and blockades:
- Roadworks - random road closures with six sets of props: concrete Jersey barriers, plastic water barriers, oil drums, crowd barriers, delineators, and arrow boards. Five layouts are also used: one-lane narrowing, full closure, chicane, pass-through, and light cones. Each spawn chooses a random combination of kit and layout for variety, and the traffic AI rebuilds a route around the blockage.
Police:
- Police chase - a fleeing racer and one or two police cars in pursuit mode with their lights flashing.
- Police patrol - a single police car drives along a generated route at normal speed.
- Police checkpoint - concrete barriers block the road, leaving a narrow passage, warning cones ahead, and two police cars parked nearby with their lights flashing.
- Motorcade - a VIP sedan, accompanied by police cars, drives in formation along a common route.
Accidents and breakdowns:
- Crash - a crash scene with multiple cars, broken parts, flat tires, hazard lights, and hazard cones. The traffic AI slows down and detours around the crash scene.
- Stalled car - one broken car is parked on the side of the road with its hazard lights flashing.
- Delivery stop - a delivery van is parked on the side of the road with its hazard lights on and its engine off.
- Ambulance - an ambulance drives quickly along a generated route with its siren on.
Parking lot scenes:
- Drifters - one or two cars perform controlled donuts in a found parking lot, ESC and TC are disabled.
- Cars & Coffee - 8-12 cars are neatly parked in real parking spaces, engines are off. A static car meeting.
- Abandoned lot - 4-7 abandoned cars are scattered around the parking lot at awkward angles, most of the cars are visibly damaged.
- Street racers hangout - spectators' cars are parked in a ring around the perimeter of the parking lot, and a car in the center does donuts.
Player interaction:
- Race challenge - a rival appears behind you, catches up with his headlights flashing, then suddenly overtakes you at full throttle, as if challenging you to a race.
Installing
AppData\Local\BeamNG\BeamNG.drive\current\mods\random_events.zip
Add the Random Events app via the Applications menu in Free Ride mode and enable the system.
Known Limitations
- AI driving on routes works, but it can still get stuck on unusual geometry. Smarter route logic is one of the top priorities for the next update.
- Some props may shift slightly on maps without pre-generated parking data.
- Some custom maps with a sparse road network will spawn fewer events than dense official maps.
What's Coming Next
- Improved AI route logic and smarter collision recovery.
- Profile and template system to quickly enable event groups: Police RP, Racing, Chill cruise, Chaos, Everything.
- More events: tow truck with multiple phases, weather change, night events, player pursuit, roadside assistance request and more.
- Heat zones to make events appear more often in cities and less often in rural areas.
Friends, please note: this mod is in the very early alpha stage, so it will have many bugs and issues. Let's improve and fix this mod together! Over time, it will become a larger project with many events that will add more interesting moments and fun to BeamNG.drive.
