Breakable World v1

DESCRIPTION

The world isn’t made of concrete anymore.

In BeamNG a lamp post stops a truck dead, and a thin birch tree wrecks your car like a bridge pillar. Breakable World fixes that. Trees, lamp posts, poles, road signs, bollards, fences, guardrails and loose objects now break when you hit them hard enough: the trunk snaps and the tree falls, the lamp post bends over with its head and arm, the fence falls flat, bins and cones fly. It works on every map with the map’s own objects, nothing to set up.

Version 1.0 is exclusive for T3 Max members. After that it goes to T3, and once newer versions are out, version 1.0 may become free.

This is a beta release. Technically it’s one of the most complex mods I’ve ever made, so some things might not work perfectly yet. I’ll keep working on it, and it will get better with every update.

What breaks

  • Trees - the trunk snaps, the tree falls onto its crown and stays there as a real obstacle you can push, drive over or get stuck under. Groups of trees break together

  • Lamp posts and wooden poles - they fall with their arms, lamp heads and boxes and lie flat on the road

  • Road signs - most of them had no collision at all in the game. Now they stop a slow car and snap under a fast one

  • Bollards - the toughest of them all

  • Fences - wooden, wire, mesh and chain-link fences and gates. A section breaks and falls flat

  • Guardrails - they still push a car sliding along them back onto the road like before, and only break from a hard hit straight into them

  • Loose objects - bins, crates, boxes, chairs, stools, small tables, barrels, buckets, cones, plastic and construction barriers fly at any touch

Speed and weight decide

How hard you need to hit depends on the object and on your vehicle’s speed and weight. With a mid-size car:

  • road sign: about 15 km/h

  • fence: about 25 km/h

  • birch: about 30 km/h

  • lamp post: about 35 km/h

  • wooden pole: about 50 km/h

  • big fir: about 55 km/h

  • guardrail: about 60 km/h, hit straight into it

  • bollard: about 70 km/h

  • big old oak: about 120 km/h

A heavier vehicle needs less speed, so a truck can drive through a forest that would stop a hatchback.

It costs you

Breaking something isn’t free. Your car takes the hit: the front gets dented and the car slows down, more for a bollard than for a sign. If something doesn’t break, it stops the car like it always did.

Traffic too

Traffic cars near you knock things over just like you do. A traffic car that loses control in a corner will take the lamp post with it.

What stays solid

Some things stay solid on purpose: poles that hold power cables (otherwise the cables would hang in the air), bridge railings, concrete barriers, walls, race track barriers and tyre stacks.

No stutter

Nothing freezes when something breaks. The map gets prepared once while it loads, so the loading screen takes a few seconds longer. After that everything runs like normal.

Settings

Everything is in the Modslab Hub menu (press G), in the Breakable World tab:

  • Turn the whole mod on or off

  • What breaks: trees, lamp posts and poles, road signs, bollards, fences, guardrails, loose objects, and whether traffic can break things too

  • Strength from 25 to 300%: lower and everything snaps like matchsticks, higher and only heavy vehicles get through

  • Fallen trees and objects: stay where they fell, or fallen trees disappear when you’re far away

  • Trunks in reserve: 12, or 20 for really dense forests

  • Regrow: every broken tree and object stands back up where it was with one click. Great for a second take

Without Modslab Hub the mod runs with default settings.

Requirements

  • BeamNG.drive 0.40

  • Modslab Hub v1.1 (free) for the settings menu
