Frostmere - Frozen Lake v1

A frozen mountain lake built for sliding.

Over a square kilometre of bare black ice, cracked into plates and streaked with blown snow, sits in a ring of snowy mountains that form the edge of the map. Drive out onto it from anywhere on the shore and drift.

The ice

• More than 1 km² of real ice surface. Streaks of blown snow give you grip back, and the next patch of bare ice takes it away again

• A plowed drift oval between snow banks, lit by 10 floodlight masts for night sessions, with spectator stands on the shore

• Two skidpads in front of the lodge

• A one-way ice loop round the whole lake, and an ice highway straight down the middle

• A pressure ridge of up-ended ice plates, a rocky island, and ice-fishing huts out on the ice

The shore

• A two-storey log lodge with a 48-bay car park facing the ice

• 9 log cabins and A-frames with lit windows, porches and their own drives

• An ice-fishing camp with a pier frozen into the ice and boats pulled up for the winter

• A winter camp with tents and fire rings, and a lookout over the whole lake

• A plowed snow road round the lake that links everything

The mountains

• Eroded snowy peaks 350-800 m high on every side, with around 17 500 snow-covered firs climbing to the tree line and a second range in the distance

Features

• AI traffic on the shore road, the ice loop, the oval and the links between them

• 190 parking bays for parked cars

• Time of day: every window, lamp and floodlight comes on at dusk, and the camp fires burn all night
