Volvo 242 V1.0

DESCRIPTION

Model: 242 Variants: 242 GT Years: 1974 - 1984 In August 1974 Volvo introduced the new generation of the 240 and 260 series. These new models were developed from the 140 series and were very similar to their predecessors. Changes included a new front end, larger bumpers and an improved chassis with MacPherson strut front wheels. At the same time, a new series of 4-cylinder overhead camshaft engines were introduced. The previous 4-cylinder engine was offered in basic versions for some time. Two-door cars were still in high demand, especially in the Nordic countries, so the inclusion of a two-door version in the range was a natural step. However, as the trend shifted towards four-door vehicles, the 242 was discontinued much earlier than the 244 and 245. Throughout its history, the Volvo 242 has been available with a wide variety of engines and gearboxes. The most impressive were the 242GT, introduced in late 1970, and the 1980 240 Turbo, shipped to North America. Both cars had outstanding dynamic and high-speed characteristics and fully met the saying "wolf in sheep's clothing".
