DIPLOMATA 380 SCANIA v1.0

DESCRIPTION

The Nielson Diplomata 380, a classic high-deck bus from the 1980s, was a significant model for the Brazilian bus manufacturer. It was designed to compete with other large, comfortable coaches of the era. The name "Diplomata 380" refers to its maximum height of 3.80 meters.

While the Diplomata 380 was built on a variety of chassis from different manufacturers, the **Scania** chassis was a popular and important option. Scania was known for its powerful and reliable engines, which made the bus suitable for long-distance travel.

### Key Characteristics of the Diplomata 380 Scania

* **Chassis:** The Diplomata 380 was built on Scania's **BR-116** and later the **K 112** chassis, which were known for their air suspension systems. This provided a very smooth and comfortable ride for passengers.

* **Engine:** The early Scania chassis for this bus came with the **DS11 Turbo** engine, which produced around 305 horsepower. Later models, with the addition of an intercooler, saw an increase in power to 333 horsepower. The powerful engine was essential for the long and winding roads of Brazil.

* **Production:** The Diplomata 380 was in production from the mid-1980s until Nielson (which would later become Busscar) changed its name in 1989.

* **Design:** The bus featured a high floor, or "high-deck" design, which allowed for a large luggage compartment underneath the passenger cabin. The design was a direct response to the market demand for more luggage space and passenger comfort on long-haul routes.

The combination of the iconic Nielson bodywork and the robust Scania chassis made the Diplomata 380 a legendary bus in Brazil's history of passenger transport.
