It all started with a simple plan: our apprentice was sent out to spread lime. Easy job. No problem. Even though the rain was coming down sideways and the field looked more like a rice paddy than farmland, confidence was high.

About ten minutes later, that confidence was buried somewhere under half a meter of mud.

The tractor slowly sank, the wheels spun, and nature won the argument. Completely stuck. Properly stuck. Call-the-boss stuck.

What followed was nothing less than a full-scale rescue operation. Phones rang. Spectators appeared. And then, like a hero from the fog, the big New Holland T8 rolled in. Massive. Powerful. Equipped with a winch that clearly meant business.

The winch tightened. The engine roared. Mud flew everywhere. With one final heroic pull and a sound best described as “SCHLORP,” the trapped tractor was freed from the muddy abyss.

The apprentice emerged muddy, humbled, and about ten years wiser in one afternoon—having learned a valuable farming lesson: if it’s raining hard and someone says “it’ll be fine,” it definitely won’t be.
